Gulf Shores fishing, Orange Beach fishing reports

 Highlights 2007

August 31st, 2007 Summer is winding down but we still have some great fishing in September and October on our half day trips for red snapper, king mackerel, Spanish mackerel and a few triggerfish. The 12 hour trips should still produce a wide variety of fish including scamp, grouper, vermillion snapper, amberjack and much more. September and October are great months for offshore big game trolling trips as we target white marlin, wahoo, dolphin and always a chance at a blue marlin or tuna. Do not forget our 4 and 6 hour Orange Beach redfish fishing charters. These redfish should move in near the beaches of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach near late October and continue through early April.

August 16th, 2007 We have experienced a heat wave over the last week or so. We expect to see some relief in a couple of days. Everyone has enjoyed cooling off in our comfortable cabin with some cold a/c. The 4 hour trolling trips are still producing  Spanish and king mackerel. The 6 and 8 hour trips have been really good with a good red snapper bite. We have been catching a few triggerfish on the 8 hour trips. The offshore bottomfishing has been a bit slower over the last couple of weeks but it usually never lasts more than a week or so. I would expect a much better deepwater bite over the next few days. The white marlin bite has been awesome up till a week ago. It should resume in a week or so.

July 26th, 2007  We have enjoyed a very busy July with many 4. 6 and 8 hour fishing charters here in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, Alabama. We also fished a few 12 hour trips. We will be looking forward to the families, groups of friends and those serious anglers joining us in August and throughout the fall and winter. Offshore big game trolling is hot offshore and should continue through early October. There were two boats today that came in with wahoo, dolphin and blackfin tuna. Also a white marlin released. We look forward to the big game offshore trolling trips coming up this next week.

July 17th, 2007  July is here along with some nice weather and great fishing. The 4 hour trips are still producing some nice king mackerel and a few Spanish mackerel. We are catching red snapper and mackerel on the 6 hour trips. For you serious anglers, the 12 hour bottomfishing trips are still giving up variety and some big fish. It is time for some offshore trolling for marlin, wahoo, dolphin and tuna. We caught dolphin and missed a couple of nice wahoo on July 16th. A great father and son trip with Jeff and Eric.

I would like to ask everyone to remember my deckhand, Gill, and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Gill's father, Norm, passed away on July 9th, 2007. Norm will always be remembered as a true southern gentleman. We will all miss him very much.

June 8th, 2007 David Long and family with a great catch on a full day trip. They caught red snapper, white snapper, scamp, king mackerel ...  This was David's 2nd trip with us on the Getaway in the last month. How bout that 28.4 lb red snapper. It would have placed 10th in the World Championship Red Snapper tournament in May. Just a few weeks late. David and friends also fished with us during the tournament in May, but windy seas kept us nearshore. Thanks to David and family from Savanah, Tn. Awesome trip.

April 3rd, 2007 We will be beginning several 12 hour trips over the next couple of weeks. But for now we are really enjoying 4 and 6 hour nearshore trips with a variety of fish being caught. This morning the Spanish mackerel bite was hot. All of this fishing is nearshore with the beach in sight. Everyone caught their share and Bernie's father caught a nice bull redfish. You can see the redfish fight in the pic below and the nice catch of Spanish mackerel.

The Rigsby family fished with us on a 6 hour trip Monday and a 4 hour trip today. The Spanish mackerel bite was slow on Monday so we ended the day with a nice catch of sheepshead. This is great fun on light tackle. Since the Spanish mackerel bite was hot this morning, we decided to give it a try this evening. Well, the bite was slow. We caught a few but to our surprise, we found the redfish. We landed 3 big bull redfish and released 3 Jack Crevelle weighing near 30 pounds each. This is 4 hour sportfishing on light tackle. I wish I could say we get this much action on every 4 hour trip. This was an exceptional day. See the great pics below of Jack Crevelle, redfish and sheepshead.

March 28th, 2007 We enjoyed a 4 hour trip today with the Gogel family. The spanish mackerel bite was very slow, but the highlight of the day was our first cobia of the year. It weighed 36 pounds and gave a heck of a fight. The cobia have arrived including an 85 pounder that was weighed in by another boat a couple of days ago. Book a 4 or 6 hour charter and give it a try.  See pic below.

On March 27th, we enjoyed a 12 hour bottomfishing trip with Alan and his son Josh. This was a private charter for father and son. We ended the day with a nice catch of fish for two people, including amberjack, scamp, triggerfish,  white snapper, vermillion snapper and lane snapper. See pic below of a few of the fish that were caught.
